Dear Families,
Term 3 New Students
We are thrilled to welcome 24 enthusiastic new students to our school as part of the Reception mid-year intake. Starting in Term 3, these young learners will begin their exciting educational journey, guided by their teacher, Mr Toby Plate. We look forward to seeing their curiosity flourish and their friendships grow as they settle into our vibrant and supportive community. Here's to a joyful and inspiring start to their school adventure!
Staffing News
Tomorrow marks the final day for our Deputy Principal, Jo Livingstone, before she begins an exciting new chapter as Principal of Rosary School from the start of Term 3. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jo for her dedicated leadership and unwavering commitment over the past five and a half years. Her impact on our school community has been profound, and she will be greatly missed. We wish Jo every success in her new role and know she will continue to inspire and lead with excellence.
90th Year Gala Dinner Celebration
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful school community for your support of the 90th Year Gala Dinner, celebrated on Saturday evening, 28th June. It was a truly memorable night of celebration and connection. Special thanks to the Adelaide Pavilion for their professionalism and warm hospitality, and to the Party Club Band for creating such an enjoyable atmosphere and getting so many of us dancing. We also acknowledge Kate Piasante and Lisa Powell from Party and Soul for their coordination of the decorations, and Sam Giannini for the lovely floral arrangements. A sincere thank you to our dedicated organising committee—Kylie McBride, Jodie Veldhoen, Jo Livingstone, Karen Klingberg, and Sally Leonard—for their hard work in bringing the evening to life.
Wellbeing Room - Soft Landing
A reminder to all families that the Wellbeing Room, prior to the school day starting at 8:50am, is intended to support students in transitioning calmly and positively into their day. This space is designed to help children settle and prepare for learning, and is not to be used as a drop in for families. We appreciate your understanding and support in maintaining the purpose and atmosphere of this important space.
As this is the final newsletter for Term 2, we would like to thank everyone for their support during this term. Students will conclude the term tomorrow at 3:00pm and we look forward to welcoming all students back to school for Term 3 on Tuesday 22nd July.
Enjoy a restful term break!
Best Wishes
The Leadership Team

Parish & Community Lunch
The parish had another delightful community lunch on Sunday 22nd June after the 10am Mass. There was a diverse spread of foods from the different cultures that make up the parish community. Another great day to celebrate the vibrant parish community.
St John the Baptist Feast Day
Last Tuesday, we celebrated the Nativity of St John the Baptist. We began the day with Mass with the parish at 9.30am in the church. At the end of Mass, we awarded Karina Overall with an award, marking her ten years of dedicated service to our school.
Amelie Wescombe, an old scholar and now a student leader at Cabra Dominican College, inspired the community as she spoke about how her time at St John the Baptist helped to build a strong foundation for her education and leadership. In her speech, Amelie addressed our school theme encouraging all students to ‘be a light’ and to shine through their example.
Despite the wet and windy weather, students participated in a range of activities both in their classrooms and with their buddy classes where they celebrated all things St John the Baptist. Another highlight for students was the delicious sushi and cold roll lunch. We thank Jo Fitzgerald and the team of volunteers who helped make this possible.
Overall, it was a joyous and wonderful feast for St John the Baptist.
Beanies for Vinnies
We held our Winter Appeal with students wearing their beanies on Tuesday 1st July. Students also donated a range of long-life foods as specified for each year level. We are always grateful for the generosity shown from our community. Vinnies also thank us for touching the lives of many individuals and families who do it tough, particularly during the cold winter months.
Sacramental Program
The last session for the Sacramental Program will be held in Week 3, Wednesday August 6th. This will be the Pizza and Poster Making Night where the children and their families will enjoy pizza, create saint posters and have a rehearsal before receiving the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Wishing you all a wonderful winter break! Stay safe and keep warm!

Dear St John’s Community,
Here it is, the week we’ve all been waiting for… Week 10 has arrived! We’re excited to have reached this part of the year, so very close to half of the year complete. I’m not 100% sure how we’ve progressed thus far into the year in what feels like such a short amount of time, but nonetheless, facts would state that we are here. In the following newsletter piece we will cover the pure joy and excitement of the R-2 AFL Auskick Clinic, SACPSSA Netball Carnival, all things running, an undefeated Soccer team and even celebrate a 3x Gold Medal Winner from the State Pool Rescue Championships.
There was certainly a buzz around the school on Monday this week when all classes from Reception-Year 2 got to engage in the AFL Auskick Clinic. The team from the SANFL Game Development group do a wonderful job of promoting the game of Football from such a young age. It was impressive to see some students going from not knowing how to handball, to hitting a target on the chest. All of these students received flyers on how to register for our Term 3 Monday night Auskick after-school program. We had an exceptional turn out to this event last year and look forward to matching or even increasing our numbers this year.
Last Thursday the 26th June, 144 students from Years 4-6 represented our school extremely well at the 2025 SACPSSA Netball Carnival. We were joined by a host of St Mary’s Physical Education students and 2 of their teachers. As part of their Netball Academy requirements, these girls have to engage in some coaching/mentoring and some umpiring. Over the course of the day our 14 teams played 6 games each and were given encouragement, praise and some handy pointers by the girls from St Mary’s. On top of this we had a large group of parent volunteers who went out and supported each of our teams. I had many positive comments about the students on the day. Well done to each and everyone of you who played your part in making the day such a successful one.
In preparation for the 2025 SACPSSA Cross Country Carnival we have held trials here at school for that particular squad. We are very fortunate with the additional oval space we now have to be able to run these trials here at school. Behind the scenes students are being categorised for Division A, B or C. We very much look forward to taking a squad of runners to the East Parklands during Term 3, Week 3, Wednesday 6th of June.
Run Club at Plympton Oval has been a wonderful platform for those students wanting to take their running seriously and for the preparation for the SACPSSA Cross Country Carnival. We have had really good numbers present and want to be involved in our Thursday morning Run Club. Thanks must go to those parents who are able to get their children to Plympton Oval on a Thursday morning by 7:55am. We really do appreciate all of the parents that are able to commit to these extra-curricular activities for their children.
Recently our after-school Senior Soccer team played in their Soccer Carnival. This team of passionate Soccer players went through the Carnival undefeated. Well done to Nick Heuzenroeder (Coach/Mentor) and to all of the players in this team. It really sounds like you all played together as one and showed wonderful levels of enthusiasm throughout the carnival. Here are some kind words about this team: “These boys are an absolute joy to coach. They all played tremendously well. They did everything I asked of them tonight and should be proud of themselves. So wonderful to see some new goal scorers tonight and also some enthusiastic goalkeepers too. The passing was on point, defending was great and I really loved that they took time to shake hands with the opposing teams.”

This week we would like to celebrate Ethan (6M) who competed in the State Pool Rescue Championships for the West Beach Surf Club. These championships went over three days - Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Ethan competed in numerous events both as a team member in team events and as an individual. He was awarded a total of 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. Ethan will now set his sights on competing in the Pool Rescue Nationals being held in Adelaide in August. Congratulations to Ethan on these wonderful achievements and we wish you all the best for Nationals later this year.

I am receiving many Premiers Be Active Challenge brochures from the students. Please keep these coming in as they are completed. Well done to all of the students spending more time being active away from school.
Before signing off for Term 2, I would just like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. If you are travelling, please be safe and if you are staying close to home, may your day adventures be exciting ones.
Yours in sport
